How does RFX work?

RFX Meat to Gateway

RFX MEAT sends readings to your RFX GATEWAY via radio frequency waves, maintaining a strong connection even through thick obstacles like ovens and BBQs. This means no interrupted readings during your cook.

Gateway to your device

Your RFX GATEWAY sends readings to your device over WiFi, so you can monitor your cooks from anywhere with an internet connection. View your cook's progress and get alerts through the ETI Cloud app.

Offline mode

Don't have WiFi available? No problem. You can use a direct gateway-to-smartphone Bluetooth connection instead. This is perfect for cooking in remote locations like beaches or campsites.

Can I use RFX in an air fryer?

Yes, you can use an RFX MEAT probe inside an air fryer. It will continue to deliver readings to your device and help you cook perfect air-fried food. 

Does RFX connect to Bluetooth or WiFi?

RFX connects to both Bluetooth and WiFi. Use WiFi for stable readings across long ranges, or Bluetooth for remote locations. 

How close does RFX GATEWAY need to be to RFX MEAT?

There is a 457 metre line of sight range between the RFX MEAT and GATEWAY. This means 457 metres is the maximum distance they should be apart without any obstacles between them.

What is the max temperature for the RFX MEAT probe?

The RFX withstands ambient temperatures up to 538 °C. It reads temperatures up to 100 °C.

Is RFX accurate?

RFX is accurate to ±0.5 °C (-10 to 100 °C). The wireless probe’s multi-sensor technology means four sensors locate the thermal centre of your cook, ensuring your meat is cooked all the way through.

Does RFX monitor pit temperature?

The RFX Starter Kit comes with a separate Pro-Series Air Probe for ambient temperature monitoring. The wired probe plugs into the gateway and comes with a clip for attaching to your BBQ grate or oven shelf.

What is radio frequency?

Radio frequency is a type of wireless technology used to transmit temperature readings between the RFX MEAT and RFX GATEWAY.

It provides a strong, stable signal with long range, allowing uninterrupted monitoring — even through ovens, BBQ lids, and walls.

Once set up, your RFX devices stay paired, so you can simply switch on and start cooking without reconnecting each time.

Is the ETI app for RFX free?

The ETI app is free to download and use for up to 10 devices. For 10+ devices, subscriptions are available. 

Will the RFX alert me when my food is cooked?

Yes, you can enable push notifications on the ETI app so you will get an alert when your food reaches temperature.

How long is the RFX battery life?

The RFX MEAT battery life is up to 52 hours on a 10-minute charge (80%) or over 65 hours on a 20-minute charge (100%). 

The battery life depends on the interval rate you select. For long cooks (15-65 hours), choose 3.0 °C/F intervals. 

Is the RFX MEAT dishwasher safe?

Yes, the RFX MEAT is fully waterproof to IP69K, which means it can be cleaned in a dishwasher. 

How many RFX MEAT probes can I use at once?

You can connect up to 50 RFX MEAT probes to one RFX GATEWAY. Build your kit and monitor multiple meats simultaneously.
