Why wireless monitoring matters
Overnight cooks
Leave low-and-slow cooks like briskets and pulled pork overnight without worry.
Lid-closed monitoring

Monitor both meat and pit temperatures for consistently juicy results.
Remote alerts
Get an alert on your phone or tablet as soon as your food is cooked.
Why cooks use Thermapen + RFX together

“Thermapen and RFX are the only meat thermometers I trust. ”
— The Smokin’ Elk
Why RF instead of Bluetooth?
Most wireless meat thermometers use Bluetooth to transmit readings to a device.
RFX is different.
RFX uses radio frequency (RF) to send readings to a wireless receiver. From there, readings are sent to your device using WiFi or Bluetooth.
Why RF enables seamless meat monitoring
Stronger signal
Blasts through walls, ovens and BBQs without dropouts.
Longer Range
Monitor over long distances, uninterrupted.
Pair once, then never again
Stays connected forever once set up.
“Ceramic grills, oven walls and long distances are all environments where low-power Bluetooth signals can struggle. RF technology is much better suited to these conditions.”
— Jason Webb, Managing Director of Thermapen & Electronic Temperature Instruments Ltd
RFX Wireless Range, Tested
Ceramic BBQ test
The Smokin’ Elk put his RFX MEAT probe inside a Kamado Joe JR, then placed the BBQ inside a Kamado Joe Big Joe. He then put his RFX GATEWAY inside another Kamado Joe, and set the two around 40 metres apart. The result? Seamless monitoring through three ceramic walls.
Kettle BBQ test
The Smokin’ Elk put his RFX MEAT probe inside a metal kettle BBQ, and his RFX GATEWAY inside another kettle BBQ, and set the two around 40 meters apart. Once again, RFX delivered seamless readings to his device.
Best uses for RFX
The recipes you can perfect with wireless monitoring.
Low and slow
Smoke brisket and pork overnight using RFX as your guide. Get notified if your pit temperature drops, and when it’s time to wrap.
Steak
Track the whole process — from the slow smoke to the finishing sear to the all-important rest — getting it exactly how you want.
Sunday roasts
Whether you’re cooking roast chicken, lamb, beef or pork — wireless tracking helps you get it just right. Perfect for feeding a crowd.
Multi-cook feasts
Track up to 50 RFX MEAT wireless probes at once. Build your collection to monitor steaks, chicken, and slow cooks all at the same time.
“I've used probes for years that constantly disconnect when the lid is down or in the oven. No issue with the RFX at all. I started smoking a brisket at 6 am, went back to bed, and could still monitor the cook. The results were amazing.”
— Mike L

What smartphone app goes with RFX?
The ETI app pairs with RFX for wireless meat temperature monitoring. Graph your cooks, set high/low alerts, and get push notifications.
Do wireless thermometers lose connection?
Some wireless thermometers lose connection because they use Bluetooth to transmit readings, and signals can struggle to penetrate thick objects like ceramic BBQ lids, ovens and walls.
RFX is built with RF (radio frequency) technology, which is much more powerful and transmits through thick objects without dropouts. The Smokin’ Elk tested his RFX through three layers of ceramic BBQ walls, and it still delivered flawless readings!
