Oven thermometers for precise cooking

Oven thermometers help you monitor either the ambient temperature inside your oven or the internal temperature of your food whilst you’re cooking.

Keeping track of your oven or food temperatures whilst roasting or baking helps to avoid unwanted fluctuations and achieve consistently perfect results.

Thermapen’s range of oven thermometers is designed to cover every type of cooking, whether you’re looking for a simple alarm oven thermometer to create a perfectly risen soufflé or a smart BBQ thermometer to make juicy pulled pork.

Why use a digital oven thermometer?

Oven temperatures aren’t always accurate, and food often cooks more quickly than packet timings or recipe instructions suggest. With an oven thermometer, you can:

Adjust your oven temperature — Fine-tune your dial so your ambient temperature is exactly what you need it to be.

Track meat temperatures — Watch your internal meat temperature climb and get an alert when it’s done, ensuring it’s safe without overcooking.

Keep the door closed — Opening the oven door lets out heat and flavours, spoiling dishes like soufleés or slow-cooked meats. Tracking the temperature on a thermometer means you know what’s going on without disturbing your dish.

Designed for accurate monitoring

Thermapen’s digital oven thermometers are made for precision and reliability, whatever you’re cooking.

Accurate — Placement is essential to get an accurate oven reading. Our Pro-Series Air Temp Probe clips onto your oven shelf for precise readings.

Versatile — Our oven thermometers feature switchable probes, so you can use them to monitor ambient temperatures or internal meat temperatures.

Simple and smart — Our range features everything from simple alarm thermometers for fuss-free monitoring to wireless options with smartphone connectivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which oven thermometer is most accurate?

Digital oven thermometers are more accurate and precise than traditional dials.

We recommend our Pro-Series Air Temp Probe (±2 °C accuracy up to 200 °C or ±3 °C up to 300 °C) paired with the DOT alarm thermometer for on-screen monitoring, or the RFX GATEWAY for smartphone monitoring.

Where should an oven thermometer be placed?

Place your oven thermometer in the centre of the oven, away from the walls.

Avoid positioning the air probe too close to your food, as cooler air around the food can affect the reading and not accurately reflect the oven temperature.

Can you leave an oven thermometer in the oven while cooking?

Air temperature probes and dial thermometers can be left in the oven while cooking, but thermometer displays and receivers (like the DOT, ChefAlarm and RFX GATEWAY) must stay outside of the oven.

How can I check if my oven temperature is accurate?

Follow these steps to check your oven temperature accuracy:

  • Clip an air probe to the centre of your middle oven shelf. Set the oven temperature and allow it to fully preheat.
  • If your thermometer has a max/min function, reset it and leave it for a few minutes. Note the highest and lowest temperatures, then calculate the average.
  • If your thermometer doesn’t have a max/min function, take several readings over 5–10 minutes and calculate the average temperature.
  • If the temperature is higher than it should be, turn your oven down slightly next time you cook. If it’s lower, do the opposite.

Which is the best oven meat thermometer?

We recommend either the DOT alarm thermometer or the RFX wireless meat thermometer for monitoring the internal temperature of meat while it cooks in the oven.

The DOT is a simple alarm thermometer with one probe for monitoring your meat temperature (or switch to an air probe to track oven temperatures). Set your desired temperature using the up/down arrows, insert the probe, and watch the temperature climb on the display. The alarm will sound when your meat is cooked.

The RFX is a wireless meat thermometer that lets you track your cook on your phone or tablet. You can monitor your oven and internal meat temperatures simultaneously and get a push notification when your food is done — great for slow-cooked recipes and tech lovers.
